Niña y oso, surprised by joy

Surprised by Joy – 2005

Pastor Ray uncovers a lie prevalent in the modern church that implies that Jesus is a thief and we must be very careful when he calls us to radical acts of obedience. Let the lie be uncovered in your heart and delivered by the blood of Jesus today!

Scriptures Used During Today’s Message: 1 Samuel 1, Romans 12:1-2

Pastor Ray uses the familiar story of Hannah and her husband’s barrenness and a chapter in the life of Rees Howells and his wife to uncover one of satan’s lies. The lie is that if we give Jesus what He wants from us, we’ll be miserable, and unhappy and nothing good will ever come of it. Let the lie be fully uncovered in your heart and be set free today! The joy is simply a byproduct of radical obedience to Jesus.

It takes deliberate decision making on our part that we will step in and give to the Lord what he asks us to give, whether it’s an unclean thing that we are tempted to reach out and touch, or if it is something that we love that is beautiful, or something that we possess that we covet.

Pastor Ray during today’s message

Pastor Ray mentioned part of a verse of an old hymn called “Trust and Obey,” which I include below:

But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey.

As a dear brother told me many years ago, don’t be afraid to give Jesus everything. We’re so scared because we’ve believed the lie that Jesus wants to steal from us. God bless you today as Jesus encourages you to give everything to Him.
