Learning the Ways of God (2013)

Learn what the pilgrimage is all about on today's Pilgrim's Progress. Are you a Lot or are you a Abraham?

Scriptures Used During Today’s Broadcast: Matthew 6:33, Genesis 13

Pastor Ray begins today’s message by reading a small portion of John Wesley’s book, which is cited below. The story picks up where Abram and his nephew Lot and their families head to Egypt, where God sends a famine. Listen how God used the famine to separate Abraham from Lot.

“The best means of resisting the devil is to destroy whatever of the world remains in us in order to raise for God upon its ruins a building of love.”

John Wesley – A Plain Account of Christian Perfection

The Lord had to bring Abraham to the end of himself and this is much of the journey because most of us, myself included, have been full of ourselves and that has to be emptied out. That’s a very painful process as you’ll see in today’s story.

Remember what God did in Abraham, He desires to do in you, although the circumstances will be vastly different. He is the creator God and infinitely creative in how He deals with us. Remember that all of the time in Egypt (i.e. the world or sin) is simply wasted time. Abraham’s life is contrasted with that of his nephew Lot and Pastor Ray includes some helpful testimony from his own life. It’s time to learn the ways of Jesus and to give ourselves without reservation to His call and His will. This series continues for the remainder of the week.

“And it’s been a continual journey of humbling of my heart, until finally I’m beginning to get a hold of just a glimmer of how small I have to be before God can begin to even move in my heart to use me for the salvation of others.”
