The Compassion of Jesus (2004)

Does the compassion of Jesus pour through your belly?

What is the first quality about himself that God identifies? He says, “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God” (Exodus 34:6). But what does “compassion” mean? The compassion of Jesus refers to deep feelings that originate in the stomach and pour out. For example, Jesus’ inward parts stirred deeply when he heard blind Bartimaeus shouting for healing.

On the other hand, if we go to Jesus for consultation with all of our plans and options laid out, he will have no compassion. His feelings will not awaken. Instead, he will say, “You don’t see that you’re wretched, poor, blind, and naked.” If this is your approach to prayer, God will not answer you. Then, you will quickly grow bored and stop praying.

Is Jesus your only Savior, or is he just a consultant? Have you staked everything you have on Jesus answering you? If you can’t trust Jesus with your temporal circumstances, why do you believe that you’re trusting him with your soul?
