Atheism of the Self (2008)

We must make this full transition from the natural to the spiritual man.

The rich young ruler who ran to Jesus didnโ€™t say, โ€œI love you and give my life to you.โ€ Instead, his question, โ€œWhat must I do to inherit eternal life?โ€ reveals that he did not love Jesus more than his own self. Regardless of how religious someone appears, a person who believes in the supremacy of self is an atheist.

Is your practical reality that God โ€œexists and that he rewards those who seek himโ€ (Hebrews 11:6)? Perhaps you intellectually agree to this, but then do you say, โ€œGod helps those who help themselves?โ€ This is the walk of the natural, and not spiritual, person. Itโ€™s not enough to say, โ€œIโ€™m going to follow Jesus,โ€ but then not be born again and baptized with the Holy Ghost and with fire. Believing in Jesus necessarily means that we no longer believe in ourselves. Revival will not come until men and women will weep before God and confess, โ€œIโ€™ve been living with an intellectual knowledge of God, but no fire!โ€ Are you a real Christian, or are you an atheist?
