How can you tell whether you–or a church–is alive or dead? The risen Christ’s message to the church in Sardis points to one’s works. Though we are not saved by works, true saving faith will produce works of obedience. Without them, we are dead, even if we have the appearance of being a living Christian. Ultimately, we will be judged at the Great White Throne by our works: and if we are not found in the book of life, we will be condemned and cast into hell for eternity.
