A Life of Love (2010 Sermon)

Hear the call of Jesus to live a love of love, even in the midst of great suffering and loss. This is a precious gift from the scriptures and the life of Pastor Ray on today's Pilgrim's Progress.

Scriptures Used During Today’s Message: Ephesians 5, Ephesians 1

This is Pastor Ray’s testimony of God’s goodness following the passing of his beloved Pastor Jan in 2010. The message is much more than that, as it’s a template from the scriptures when we’ve come to the end of ourselves, and we can’t go forward. What does Jesus desire from this in the midst of these painful and fiery trials? Do we just quit, or turn inward and try to soothe our inner pain?

It’s a very similar path to Elisabeth Elliot’s thoughts expressed in her little book entitled Suffering is Never for Nothing. Here is one of her many powerful quotes:

It’s only in the cross that we can begin to harmonize this seeming contradiction between suffering and love. And we will never understand suffering unless we understand the love of God.

Elliot, Elisabeth. Suffering Is Never for Nothing

(NOTE: The opening music is a hymn written by George Matheson entitled O Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go, wonderfully sung by Alessandra Sorace. He wrote it as he was going blind while preparing for the ministry (and many believe his fiancée broke their engagement due to his blindness).
