A Death Blow to Pride (2005 Sermon)

Pride is such an ugly thing but Jesus has made provision for its removal in your heart and mine. We call it crucifixion, are you willing to let Jesus do this grand work in your heart, so that you're free to love others as He loves you and me?

Scriptures Used During Today’s Message: Philippians 2

On today’s encore Pilgrim’s Progress, Pastor Ray uncovers this pride in our hearts again. The Holy Spirit wants to break that hard shell of pride. Pastor Ray lays out what the Holy Spirit wants to take from us, which is all of our pride manifested in the pecking order, in our self-serving ways, our victim mentality, and other manifestations.

The question is, “Will we let Jesus remove all pride from our hearts, so He can give us what He desires, which is a heart full of agape love, that flows out from our belly in compassion to others? He wants to give us His heart, which is not man-pleasing but rather pleasing to God. Is there anything more profound or more important to you than that?

There is one significant catch: you can’t do this in your power or wisdom and it’s going to require a death to self that you may not fully comprehend. Does your heart overflow with that agape love toward Jesus and toward others, and is that the cry of your heart?
