Breaking the Power of Self Deception

Jesus wants to break all self-deception in our hearts, through His power. Will you ask the Holy Spirit to uncover any self-deception in your heart as you listen to today's message??

Scriptures Used During Today’s Broadcast: Ephesians 6, Hebrews 10, 1 Samuel 10

What is self-deception? Here’s a simple definition from the Cambridge Dictionary:

the act of hiding the truth from yourself.”

Self-deception is so powerful because there is no impetus to change. After all, we’ve placed blinders on ourselves. That’s very difficult when it comes to walking with Jesus because that requires us to be honest with Jesus, ourselves, and each other.

The message focuses on the first part of the armor in Ephesians 6, which is to put on the full armor of God. Pastor Ray explains:

And the devil’s schemes always involve tricking us into believing something that is not true. And causing us to take action on something that is false.

The struggle is not against flesh and blood but rather against principalities and powers of the dark world. Pastor Ray then goes onto the story of King Saul to describe how this self-deception can work in the heart of a man or woman of God.

First, we must decide to hide no longer, except in Jesus, and to honestly deal with Jesus on any cracks in my pot, so to speak. This requires us to confess our weaknesses and failures and to give ourselves utterly to Jesus. I’m including one additional quote from the message below, which is true of most Americans, as we’ve been taught to be self-sufficient.

When you look at the life of Saul, you see an undercurrent that constantly pulls him away from the way of God. And that undercurrent is pride. That undercurrent is self-sufficiency.

That undercurrent is refusing to give up himself and allow Jesus to rule fully over him
