Scriptures Used During Today’s Encore Sermon: John 5:1-15, Romans 6
Today’s message focuses on the invalid in John 5, who for 38 years was stuck in bondage, with no way to deliver himself. Pastor Ray draws the parallel between this man and our bondage under the law, which we’ve all been under. God increased this man’s misery until he was willing to ask Jesus for deliverance.
Has your misery quotient increased to such a degree that you’re willing to cry out to Jesus, for only the deliverance that he can provide? Are you willing to ask Jesus to ask you to get up out of the law? Have you counted yourself dead to sin?
Please hear me. When Jesus gives a command, it is also accompanied by the power to carry out that command. So when Jesus said to this man, Get up, power flowed into his legs. His ankles were stabilized. His muscles were strengthened. And he got up. Picked up his mat and walked out of there. It seems clear then that if we’re going to break out, it’s going to have to be Jesus that breaks us out.
