The church’s mission picks up where Jesus left off. As Isaiah 61 puts it, the church is, “to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion” (v. 2-3a). But how we can proclaim this gospel in such a way that people break down and get right with God, if we haven’t gone through that process of repentance ourselves?
This consideration leads to a self-examination. Are you self-righteous? Typically, self-righteous people don’t recognize that they are self-righteous. However, this problem is very common in America. Instead of devoting their lives to the Gospel Commission, many Christians treat church like samples at a grocery store.
Are the fruits of repentance evident in your life today? If not, will you take this first step, and then go on to take up the mission of God’s people?
