Jesus’ love is balanced by his wrath against sin. Sin destroys love, joy, peace, and all that is good. So to maintain a kingdom of righteousness, sin must be destroyed. By illustration, the peace and freedom of society depends on imprisoning murderers and rapists. Likewise, the holiness and peace of heaven depends on the destruction of sin.
Jesus came to destroy sin so that he would not have to destroy sinners. He accomplishes this by breaking the power of sin. When this power is broken, sinners are freed to live a righteous and holy life. But, those who refuse to allow Jesus to break this power of sin, and so continue in their sin, will ultimately be shut out of God’s kingdom and cast into eternal torment and fire.
