Why did Jesus come? Why did he leave? What are we supposed to do while he’s gone? Jesus answered these questions by telling the parable of a king who went on a long journey. Before he left, the king entrusted his business with his servants. Upon his return, the king expected to “harvest what he didn’t plant.”
This gives us the big picture of God’s kingdom. The church is here in the place of Christ, to do what Christ would do if he were here. The book of Luke gives us the context to understand what that work is, and how we’re to do it.
This very exciting message clearly reorients our understanding of the gospel, revival, and the baptism of the Holy Spirit. May it prompt you to take up this glorious charge of, “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven!”
