Do you know what makes God angry? You may say, “Sin,” and that's true. One specific sin that makes God angry is gossip. For example, when Moses married a woman of color from Ethiopia, his siblings Miriam and Aaron began to speak evil against him. As a result, Miriam was struck with leprosy for seven days.
Though delayed, the judgment will be no less severe in New Covenant times than in Old. Moreover, the church cannot be a safe place for its members or for newcomers if gossip and slander are raging.
Have you participated in slander, backbiting, or gossip? Simply, have you spoken behind someone's back something that you wouldn't say to their face? If so, God requires you to make restitution–not only an apology, but compensation. Will you be sure that you're clear of gossip today, ensure that you won't fuel anybody else's, and stand up for those being spoken against?
