After Jesus returned to heaven, the church faced a serious question. Could the name of Jesus, and faith in that name, heal the sick, cast out demons, and save the lost–even though Jesus was no longer on the earth? Could they not only continue, but finish the work that Jesus had started: the work of bringing God’s kingdom to the earth?
When Peter and John healed the lame beggar outside of the temple, they set off a series of miraculous works to continue until the end of time. This kingdom power in the church emerged from Jesus, who personally lived inside of Peter and all the Spirit-baptized disciples. Through a kind of holy procreation, God and the church came together to birth children and righteousness.
Today, Jesus desires to live that way in you and me. Will you devote your life to it?
