The book of Acts contrasts two responses to the gospel. First, on the Day of Pentecost, Peter preached to a crowd of laypeople. They were cut to the heart and asked, “What shall we do to be saved?” Soon after, the deacon Stephen preached to the religious leaders. They, too, were cut to the heart. But, instead of repenting, they grew enraged and stoned Stephen to death.
This raises a question for you. Have you responded to the gospel with rage at its requirements, or with sweet submission? If you're indifferent, it's likely because you neglect the basic truths of the Bible about the holiness and justice of God. The truth is, you are going to die, and you won't be able to take anything with you. Moreover, you will face your Creator and Judge, and be sentenced to either heaven or hell based on what you did on this earth.
